English bulldogs are not known to be a particularly yappy breed. But even the quietest dog may start barking due to stressful situations, health reasons, and more. If your English bulldog has become quite the barker in recent months, here are the top five reasons why:

Boredom

English bulldogs, just like all types of dogs, require love and attention from their owners. When they feel bored or neglected, they may start barking as a way to get their owner’s attention. Make sure you’re giving your bulldog plenty of attention and playing with them multiple times a day.

They’re getting antsy

We all get that antsy feeling whenever we’ve been stuck in the house for too long. Dogs get it too. If you haven’t taken your pup out for a walk in some time, they may start pacing and barking as a way to express their frustration.

Anxiety or stress

Barking can also be a sign of anxiety or stress. Whether it’s an unwanted stranger coming to your home or smoke coming from an area of the house, dogs may bark when danger is near. This is especially true if your dog is barking in the middle of the night.

They’re in pain or uncomfortable

Some health conditions can cause your English bulldog to start barking. For instance, dry skin can make your dog feel uncomfortable, and their barking is a way to express that. Always keep an eye on your pet to ensure their health is in tip-top shape.

They don’t like their food

We often think that our dogs will eat just about anything, but that’s not always the case. Some English bulldogs can be picky about their food, and their barking is a sign of their displeasure. If you’ve ruled out all other possible reasons for their barking and they still won’t stop, consider changing up their diet.
